Running Laps: PUMA Reveal Jamaican Olympic Kit in Eye-Peeling Showcase of Speed
have officially launched the Jamaican Olympic Association kits during a showcase of speed at the ISSA Boys & Girls Championships in Kingston, Jamaica. Approximately 25,000 track and field fanatics filled the Jamaica National Stadium for the event, which served as a platform for the future of running and the cutting-edge apparel set to feature this summer in Paris.
Some of the fastest athletes on the planet were in attendance, including Olympic champion Edaine Thomson-Herah, 200 metre maestro Sherika Jackson, and the second-fastest man of all-time, Yohan Blake.
The ISSA Boys and Girls Championships, often referred to as ‘Champs’, has long served as a podium for showcasing blistering young talent across the country, with previous winners often going on to perform at the international stage. Not only serving as a place for competition, Champs has also become a symbol of unity, passion and pride for the Jamaican community.
‘Champs is the beating heart of Jamaica. For decades, it has produced an unimaginable number of Olympians, World Champions and World Record holders, who themselves have created some of the most memorable moments in sports history. Tonight, here in Kingston, we created another,' said PUMA's Chief Executive Officer, Arne Freundt.
Rooted in elite performance, the kits are built to reflect both speed and harmony. Engineered jacquard fabric is utilised for heat reduction and breathability, while thermoadapt technology regulates body temperature.
‘In their truest form these kits are an expression of speed. Speed has always been PUMA’s vantage point. It is what enables us to see the game differently, challenge convention and create moments that will live with us forever. We can’t wait to experience more in Paris this summer,' added Freundt.
PUMA also had several archival runners on display at a space adjacent to the kit unveil. From Usain Bolt's Olympic gold-winning spikes to a 1968 pair of brush spikes, the display illuminated the Big Cat’s impressive bona fides in the world of track and field.
