Zion Williamson’s Rookie Deal with Jordan Brand the Richest Ever
contract is set to be the most lucrative rookie deal of all time, the 6 ft 7 prodigy from Duke inking a 5-year commitment that exceeds anything seen in NBA history (although the exact figures have not yet been disclosed).
The record was previously held by LeBron James, who signed with in 2003 for $90 million over seven years. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Zion had deals on the table from several other brands that stretched 'well into the nine-figure range'.
Zion eventually chose the Jumpman due to his affinity with the enormous impact that Michael Jordan had, and continues to have, on the game of basketball. As Zion explained during this week’s big announcement, ‘Since I was a kid, I dreamed of making it to the league and having the type of impact on the game Michael Jordan had, and continues to have today. He was one of those special athletes I looked up to, and I really can’t express how happy and excited I am for this journey.’
