Was The Bapesta Born In South America?

We had to do a double take when we dug up these early 90s catalogues the other day from now defunct South American footwear brand M2000. Look familiar? We were trying to figure out what cult Japanese brand famous for their camo prints may have aped their distinctive lightning bolt design but we couldn't quite nigo it out.
