Chicagoan Vic Mensa is meeting his hometown’s ‘bait truck’ controversy with a constructive idea. After seeing that police were tempting those in impoverished neighbourhoods to steal shoes they mightn’t have the means to otherwise get, Mensa and his SaveMoneySaveLife foundation are giving away thousands of free sneakers.
The Chicago Sun-Times report that Mensa will place an ‘anti-bait truck’ alongside food trucks for a back-to-school event. Some 3000 shoes were donated by Friday, and the foundation is said to be aiming for 10,000 pairs before the event kicks off on August 26.
