The sneakersphere is always turning, not just for us sneakerheads copping kicks, but in the wider industry too. There were some major leadership shake-ups at Nike recently, and now Vans have just announced that they’ve appointed a new global chief marketing officer. Effective July 5, Drieke Leenknegt, formerly Timberland’s global CMO, will take the reins and work closely with the VF Corp brand’s marketing and creative teams.

‘As Drieke joins Vans, I am excited by what her leadership and in-depth experience will bring to our brand and how that will complement and reinforce our overarching business objectives,’ Kevin Bailey, Vans global brand president said in a press release. ‘Consumers know and love our brand, but it will be under Drieke’s purview as Global CMO that we’ll look to strengthen and deepen our connectivity with consumers everywhere to drive brand affinity.’

Originally from Belgium the new Vans’ CMO has had multiple decades of experience, working with both Timberland and Nike. Leenknegt has ‘long admired the purpose and conviction Vans has had through its marketing and creative efforts,’ going on to state that she’s ‘watched Vans as a consumer, competitor, and colleague, and [is] honored to now contribute to its storied history, drive the brand forward, and lead the incredibly talented team at Vans.’
