Sneakerheads and basketball fans of a certain age will remember the stranglehold AND1 had on an international scale back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Their Mixtape series of streetball style and ‘right place, right time’ entry into the market saw them become, at one point, the second biggest basketball brand in America, behind Nike. However, their fall from these lofty heights seemed to happen just as quickly. The brand’s golden era is being explored in a new Netflix documentary titled Untold: The Rise and Fall of AND1, airing later this month.

The show taps AND1 co-founders Seth Berger, Jay Coen Gilbert and Tom Austin, to reflect on their early success and where it went wrong. Appearances from brand ambassadors and streetball legends including The Professor, Hot Sauce, Skip 2 My Lou, The Main Event, Shane the Dribbling Machine and more reflect on their experience of the brand's journey.

This premiere is part of Netflix’s broader Untold series, which explores moments of sporting history and culture, delving ‘deep into what happened beyond the headlines, as told by those who lived it, to reveal the grit, resilience, heartbreak, triumph, violence, comedy and pathos beneath the sweat.’ New films are released weekly.

Watch the trailer for Untold: The Rise and Fall of AND1 and expect it to air on Netflix from August 23.
