'Chicago' and 'Neutral Grey' Meet On this Union x Air Jordan 1 Looksee Sample

Union x Air Jordan 1 Looksee Sample

Union and Jordan Brand's duo of Frankensteined Air Jordan 1s were some of 2018's finest sneakers, and now fetch handsome four-figure sums on the aftermarket. One pair brought together the tones of the Air Jordan 1 'Storm Blue' and the Air Jordan 1 'Bred' while the other combined the shades of the Air Jordan 1 'Black Toe' and the Air Jordan 1 'Neutral Grey,' but now we have a look at what the collection might've been had things played out differently thanks to the reveal of a never-before-seen looksee sample.

Brought to light by @ballintwn, the new pair combines the upper of the Air Jordan 1 'Chicago' with the collar of the Air Jordan 1 'Neutral Grey.' It also leans further into its vintage inspiration than the two pairs that were released did, thanks to pre-distressed and aged detailing on the upper and midsole alike. Looksee samples are usually created early in a sneaker's production process, and are made simply so designers and collaborative partners can get a rough idea of what their final product will actually look like when it comes out of the factory.

That status means that this colour combo and its heavily-aged details were discarded somewhere in the beginning or middle of the design process, making this looksee sample a striking (and rare) glimpse into the process of creating one of last decade's best Air Jordan colabs! Of course, it'll never see a retail release – hope as you may.
