Tinker Hatfield's First Sketches Of The Nike Mag Show Its Real Purpose

The original sketches of Tinker Hatfield’s design for Back To The Future have showed up, and they reveal what it was meant to be for. Even though it spent most of its time hover-boarding in the film, it was actually deemed to be a ‘Multi-purpose/crosstraining Nike shoe’.

One prototype even saw the shoe with growing air bags which, given Hatfield’s fondness for the gas, isn’t so surprising. We can see why he went with the final product, but in any regard the sketches are a fun insight into the workings of the designer’s mind.
