This Upcoming Dunk Has an Unexpected Inspiration
Earlier this month, we copped a look at upcoming GR Wheat/Dark Purple. At the time, it seemed like a solid colourway in the vein of previous SB inline drops. Now, we find out there’s more to it than we first thought, and all of a sudden this release falls in step with the skate division’s practice of weaving storytelling into their designs at any opportunity.
The now-dubbed ‘Pelle Hat’ Dunk is apparently so named after a hat that Nike SB’s former senior product line manager Steve Pelletier had since he was in 7th grade. SB sleuths came through with the backstory (and pics of the hat in question from !), and the inspiration becomes clear. The tan suede overlays nod to the hat’s brim and ‘23’ branding, while the purple is taken from the bucket. The pink laces and Swoosh bring the whole look together, just as the similarly hued Jumpman logo does on the cap. I think we can all conclude that this colour combo was so good it had to be done again!
nikesbornothing have also come through with a potential release date – look for these to drop in May.
