Sole swapping is the bread and butter of the custom sneaker game, and The Shoe Surgeon, aka Dominic Ciambrone, is regarded as one of the best in the business. He’s currently wondering what the Travis Scott x Fragment x Air Jordan 1 Low would look like if it walked in someone else’s shoes.

As such, he’s mocked up five different options, each depicting midsoles taken from current popular luxury designer shoes to contemplate the idea of a potentially monstrous mash-up.

The first option derives its sole from the Converse Chuck 70 Utility, as recently devised by way of collaboration with Kim Jones.

Up next is the oversized, slightly melted, cake-like midsoles from Japan’s Mihara Yasuhiro. In theory, it’s doable, but that jagged foxing stitch is a lot of hard work.

Third is the chunky rubber lugged tread from luxury brand Bottega Veneta, who have recently reached something of fashion meme status thanks to their gumboot-style duds.

Following that is the athleisurely foam form taken from the Balenciaga Track sneaker. Just because.

Last is a lightly rippled sole found on many of Rick Owens’ footwear options. This is arguably the most seamless fusion of the set.

TSS is fishing for responses in his Instagram post to determine a ‘winner’. It seems the most popular option will actually get swapped onto the AJ1.
