The First-Ever Retro of an OG Nike Air Huarache
It looks like Nike are indeed bringing back more OG colourways of the Air Huarache, following the recent retro of the ‘Scream Green’. Up next is this little-known white and black edition that hasn’t been seen since its OG run in 1992. For longtime Huarache collectors, this is great news.
This black and white Air Huarache is perhaps the most conservative colourway from that initial launch, while the other releases employed wild neons that went on to define the era. Understated colouring aside, everything else recalls that early 90s vibe: shiny black nylon toe boxes, contrasting soft white leather toe bumpers and eyestays, black neoprene booties, and a translucent rubber heel strap. The 2021 Air Huarache retros also see truer-to-OG detailing like the deeper midsole flex grooves and large tongue logo. Another noteworthy change is the slightly re-positioned heel strap placement, which should prevent the commonplace snapping that plagued previous Huarache retros. Hurrah! What hasn’t changed is the fact this model remains one of Nike’s most comfortable sneakers ever, despite turning 30 this year. There’s something in the Air…
Keep an eye out for this OG Air Huarache colourway to land at Nike retailers in coming months. Definitely get excited for this one.
