The ASICS World Earth Day 2021 Collection is For a Better Planet

ASICS World Earth Day 2021

April 22 is World Earth Day, and ASICS are doing their part to reduce the footprint of shoe manufacturing by releasing a new commemorative range of sneakers made using recycled components. The ASICS World Earth Day 2021 collection includes both performance models like the GEL-Nimbus 23, and retro casual styles including, of course, the GEL-Lyte III.

The entire inventory of the ASICS World Earth Day 2021 collection reportedly uses five tonnes of recycled materials – the rough equivalent of 25,000 t-shirts – during its production process. This increased eco consciousness has resulted in each sneaker being made from at least 30 per cent recycled components, with some models even hitting 40 per cent.

ASICS President and COO Yasuhito Hirota says, Since our founding… ASICS’ purpose has been to help people achieve a sound mind in a sound body. But for that, they need a sound earth to exercise on. That’s why we’re committed to… innovating the manufacturing process… [so] we can help…mitigate the impact of climate change.’

ASICS’ commitment to leaving a lighter environmental footprint continues beyond this one-off release. According to the brand, over 95 per cent of their new running shoes will use recycled polyester components, and the insole dyeing process will use 45 per cent less carbon dioxide.

The ASICS World Earth Day 2021 collection will hit ASICS and selected retailers from April 16, however some of the styles are due to arrive a little later this month.
