The Air Jordan 4 ‘DIY’ is Made For Next-Gen Sneaker Customisers

Air Jordan 4 DIY Sneaker Freaker Mockup

Customising sneakers has probably been around ever since someone accidentally got some ink on their Converse Chuck Taylors back in the 1920s (citation needed…) but has really picked up momentum again in recent years. Most of the time, it’s been the result of third-party entrepreneurship, or simply wanting to own a pair of sneakers that are different to the rest. Brands have caught on to this practice, and have begun to offer in-house customisation options, such as this upcoming Air Jordan 4 GS that will reportedly encourage owners to personalise its blank canvas.

The details surrounding this release remain a… blank canvas… so let’s use some imagination. It’s very likely these AJ4s will use all-white uppers in a colour-permeable material like unsealed leather or canvas. There are various whispers online that each upper panel could be outlined in black, a la Joshua Vides style (another prominent figure who got his start in the art world by customising sneakers). As far as the tools for decorating these pint-sized Jordans go, it could very well be felt-tip textas, ballpoint pens, paint markers, or perhaps marbles to roll around atop the shoes. Whatever can be safely packaged and transported perhaps.

Alas, the truth will only come reliably from the horse’s mouth that is Jordan Brand, so sit tight until confirmation is made.
