Legendary Japanese streetwear stalwarts A Bathing Ape have been in the sneaker headlines non-stop over the past few months. Whether it was with their gargantuan Spring 2021 lineup, Drippy Gunna collaboration, or adidas Superstar, their name is never too far away from the Sneaker Freaker homepage. Next up, BAPE will move into new territory with their first-ever New Balance collaboration, delivering a tasty 2002R!

Although this will be the beginning of an official partnership between BAPE and NB, the streetwear kings used to have a shoe dubbed the FIVESTA which was essentially a tribute to the 574. Nevertheless, the NB2002R is the perfect canvas for the duos inaugural link-up! A legacy silhouette for the Boston-based brand, it was revived last year – first via the Salehe Bembury colab, and then in GR form with a few subtle tweaks.

New Balance don’t want us to see the full collaborative sneaker just yet, although they have sent through some teaser imagery. From the three pics provided we can guess that there’s two sneakers in the works, one in grey with tonal camouflage and another boasting black, their shark motif on the heel, and classic ABC camo.

Currently, BAPE and New Balance haven’t made an official announcement, but we’re sure there will be one coming in the next few weeks. As usual, we’ll keep you updated as soon as it happens.
