DJ Khaled has gone from working in a Champs Sports store and sneaking his mixtapes into shoe boxes, to owning a Champs Sports of his very own. And after speaking on the acquisition a few months ago, the Snapchat mogul and Jordan collaborator has finally opened his doors to show it off.
The ‘store’ resides next to Khaled’s Miami studio and won’t function like a typical retailer. Only members of Khaled’s inner circle will be allowed to enter, and everything inside is free. In that regard it could be thought of more as a permanent show room, with a steady rotation of Champs stock – much like his infamous sneaker closet.
‘My sneaker room inspired me’ Khaled told Hypetrak of the endeavor. ‘I would walk in like, "this is Champs Sports." We got a store: Champs and We The Best’.
Inside the space boasts 525-square-foot of sneaker heaven, with ‘We The Best’ and ‘We Know Game’ slogans on the walls and gold keys hanging from the roof. A testament to hard work, the store shows Khaled is well and truly enjoying his success – as opposed to suffering from it.
