Such Is Life: Reka And The Yok
Melbourne creative mainstays and are teaming up for the first time for a new exhibition themed around the phrase “such is life”, which was the famous final utterance of notorious Australian bushranger Ned Kelly before he was hung.
James Reka and The Yok explore moral themes including Greed, Death, Fame, Freedom and Reciprocity. The artists set out to challenge Australian myths and ask us to compare the historical veneration of Ned Kelly with the modern popularity of figures such as Mark "Chopper"
Read and the popular TV series "Underbelly". Why are criminal characters so popular? Why is it Australian to celebrate our villains?
Such is Life: a Visual Exploration Into Australia’s Bushrangers opens at Melbourne’s on July 16th and runs until August 2nd.
