Studio Hagel’s adidas Sambas Are Inspired By Hand-Embroidered Napkins

The adidas Samba had a stonking year in 2023. Fuelled by the superlative collaborations of Wales Bonner, the terrace-wear icon appeared in various guises throughout the year before closing things out in style with a festive Kithmas edition in December. adidas will have their fingers (and toes) crossed that the Samba will continue to cut through (alongside its Gazelle companion), and if their first reveal of 2024 is anything to go by, then it’s going to be another huge year.

Designed by Amsterdam-based footwear imprint Studio Hagel, this quartet of Sambas is inspired by hand-embroidered napkins. Each replete with blossoming flowers and piping reminiscent of baroque handkerchiefs, all four of these would look right at home (un)laced in the throes of nuptial bliss. Interestingly, the design also bears resemblance to the AI-generated matrimonial Air Max we’ve seen lighting up our feeds of late.

It’s currently unclear whether Studio Hagel will announce the four Sambas as part of an official release.
