Spike Lee Gifted Air Jordan 1s Honouring His Cannes Film Festival Jury Presidency
and Spike Lee have fostered quite the relationship , and a special gift was created for the acclaimed director ahead of the 73rd Cannes Film Festival, which was unfortunately cancelled in 2020. Lee was named as jury president for the famed annual event, and no doubt would’ve rocked this pair of proudly had festivities occurred.
There’s plenty of special details on this sample pair – some obvious, others somewhat hidden. The premium suede and leather uppers are composed of red, white and blue nodding to the French flag. The most notable features appear at the tongues. On the left shoe, we get a reimagined photo of Mars Blackmon on the phone done in the French tricolour. The underside of his hat reads the city’s name ‘Cannes’, while his shirt reads ‘President Mars’. Another subtle detail on this tongue is the stitched signature of Tinker Hatfield in the lower right corner.
The right tongue subtly pays tribute to Kobe Bryant, as we get a Spike Lee graphic with him dressed in the purple suit he wore to the Oscars in tribute to Bryant. Look really close, and you’ll see the lapel of the suit even has the number 24 stitched on it. On either side of the French flag there’s the words ‘Festval De Cannes’ and ‘Jury President’.
While unconfirmed, it’s rumoured only five pairs were made for Lee and close friends and family. A public release is very unlikely.
