Virgil Abloh-Designed Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 Auctions Fetch Over $25 Million at Sotheby’s
Bidding has ended at Sotheby’s for the Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 designed by the late Virgil Abloh, with final prices smashing estimates in a $25.3 million auction war. Of the 200 lots on offer, the first was the most expensive at an astronomical $352,800.
There was plenty of reason for big bids on Lot 1. It was the only size 5 pair made, and it was also the very first unit sold. On the other end of the lots, which saw sequential sizing, Lot 200, the lone size 18, sold for $176,400 – exactly half of Lot 1. The other sizes that only had one pair made were 5.5, 11.5, 12.5, 16, and 17, which averaged in the mid-$100k.
Size availability was greatest in the common range of 7 to 11, attracting prices generally in the low- to mid-$100k, with a handful of outlier pairs in the smaller end of the scale going for about $90k.
Retrospectively, Sotheby’s estimate range of $5000 to $15,000 per lot was very conservative.
Proceeds from these luxurious LV AF-1s go towards the Virgil Abloh ‘Post-Modern’ Scholarship Fund, which assists promising fashion students of Black, African American, or African descents.,
