Sotheby’s Auctioning Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1s Designed by Virgil Abloh
The late Virgil Abloh is continuing to build his legacy posthumously with a very limited run of Nike Air Force 1s created in collaboration with Louis Vuitton, where he was the incumbent artistic director. 200 pairs of these luxurious Uptowns will be exclusively auctioned online via Sotheby’s, where proceeds will benefit The Virgil Abloh ‘Post-Modern’ Scholarship Fund.
These AF-1s were created for the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2022 Men’s Collection, marking a new calibre of collaboration for Nike and LV. The shoes’ uppers are made completely from calf leather in LV’s distinct ‘Monogram’ and ‘Damier’ patterns, and trimmed with more natural cowhide. Each pair is packaged in a Louis Vuitton pilot case covered in orange monogrammed leather, which is part of the new collection.
The auction for the Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 will run from January 26 until February 8. 200 pairs will be available from size 5 to 18, and bids start at $2000. The lots can be viewed on Sotheby’s website here, and Sotheby’s New York will be displaying the shoes at a free exhibition that’s open from January 19 to February 8. ,
Proceeds from this auction will go towards The Virgil Abloh ‘Post-Modern’ Scholarship Fund, which assists promising fashion students of Black, African American, or African descents through funding and mentorship.
