Sotheby’s are pretty busy in the sports and sneaker memorabilia space right now. Concurrently with their ‘String Theory’ sneaker sale, the auction house is also selling off 16 pieces of athlete-used equipment, with some items emerging for sale for the very first time in the ‘Invictus Part II’ collection.

There are a handful of shoes that will be hotly contested by sneaker collectors and sports fans. A pair of Nike Oregon Waffles worn by legendary runner Steve Prefontaine is estimated to fetch up to $250,000 and is the first time his shoes have ever hit auction. Basketball shoes, including a pair of LeBron 3s, used and signed by the man himself, are up for grabs. So are some Air Jordan 11s honouring Yankees hero Derek Jeter – one of only five pairs ever made. Michael Jordan memorabilia is always coveted, and this collection offers something different by having a pair of cleats he wore and signed during his brief baseball career. Tennis shoes from Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams round out the rare footwear selection. Other notable sports items include game-worn basketball jerseys from Kobe Bryant, Dennis Rodman and Ja Morant, plus tennis racquets, ice hockey sticks and more.

Check out the lots of the ‘Invictus Part II’ collection on Sotheby’s before bidding opens on September 6.
