Sneaker Seeker X Sneakart Recap
The project aims to introduce young people to the sneaker industry through a series of workshops/seminars and an exhibition. Young people will learn a range of skills including sneaker design, customisation, curatorship, film making and photography at based in the centre of Slough town.
On Wednesday 18th February 2009 the second Sneaker Seeker workshop occurred and it was immense. Sixteen young people learnt the modern art of and created their own designs thanks to funding from Slough Borough Council.
The workshops were delivered by product designer Chris Eves who works for, an innovative company who created an adhesive ‘skin’ for customising sneakers. Chris answered questions about the sneaker industry whilst offering the young people tips and advice on customisation ideas and designs.
At this first workshop, the young people created their designs and will return on Wednesday 4th March at 4pm – 6pm to customise their very own pair of Nike Air Force One sneakers with these designs.
Project Coordinator for Slough Young People’s Centre, Kristiina Paul of Future Culture Ltd, said, ‘The project has really taken hold of the imaginations of young people; this workshop was massively oversubscribed and the young people are extremely excited about seeing their designs on their sneakers!’
