sacai and Nike's double-stacked VaporWaffle in 'Black/Gum' is a shoe that feels like it's been around forever ... but it hasn't been released yet. A first look at the two-tone style was revealed a full year ago, and since then sacai have released the model in a handful of other colourways, crafted new high-top VaporWaffle styles with the help of Jean Paul Gaultier and even moved on to a different silhouette, showing off a Cortez colab as part of their AW22 collection reveal. Now, however, official images of the 'Black/Gum' have finally surfaced – indicating that a long-awaited release may be imminent.
As can be implied from its name, the 'Black/Gum' is one of the more muted sacai x Nike VaporWaffle colourways to appear since the model's debut in 2020. It's made of nylon, suede and leather, and is dressed entirely in stark black shades save for the classic gum outsole and co-branded tongue tags. The lack of colour isn't to its detriment though, as it allows the doubled-up construction and material mix to share the spotlight evenly, with pieces like the lipped heel, two midfoot Swooshes and circular details under the eyestays all demanding attention.
We've yet to receive an official release date for the sacai x Nike VaporWaffle in 'Black/Gum', but the arrival of these official images indicate that it's likely to touch down in the coming months.
