Upcoming sacai x Nike Cortez Colab Revealed in FW22 Lookbook
Japanese fashion label sacai have confirmed their latest Nike collaboration by revealing an upcoming Cortez remake in their newly released FW22 lookbook via Vogue. While only a couple of on-foot shots have been shown so far, they give away enough detail to make some inferences from.
The Cortez was likely not just selected on a whim – it’s the model’s 50th anniversary this year. For sacai, whose Nike colab catalogue has already featured numerous 1970s Swoosh models like the Blazer and LDWaffle, the Cortez seems a logical choice. Of course, the Chitose Abe-helmed brand has a penchant for chopping and changing these footwear icons, and the Cortez undergoes a layered treatment in a similar fashion to its predecessors.
Double- and triple-stacked elements have become something of a sacai signature, which returns here across multiple parts of the Cortez. The sole sandwich of foam juts out at the heel like a mini spoiler, while the forefoot has a visible Zoom Air insert in the style of the Alphafly runners. Meanwhile, the uppers are relatively untouched, but double Swooshes and two sets of laces jammed into the eyelets are expected modifications. Naturally, the OG white, blue and red colourway gets a run, but a couple of other lookbook shots reveal a stealthier black and grey edition.
Like previous sacai x Nike colabs, expect months of leaks and early pairs before either brand official confirms a release.
