Closer Look! sacai x Nike Cortez 4.0 'OG'

News on this release was first published on May 23, 2022.

Update June 7, 2022: A fresh batch of imagery has come through, showing off the sacai x Nike Cortez 4.0 'OG'! Release details are still scarce at this point but stay tuned for all the updates.

Chitose Abe’s sacai label continue to exert their profound influence on the sneakersphere in 2022, the Japanese imprint having a huge hand in the vernacular of contemporary streetwear. Taking the scalpel to the VaporWaffle, Blazer and LDWaffle in recent years, sacai are now overhauling a classic in the Swoosh’s running canon: The much-loved Nike Cortez.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022, the Cortez was originally designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, and launched during the height of the Summer Olympics in 1972.

Once again, sacai are not taking the concept of ‘collaboration’ lightly, Abe’s imprint significantly overhauling the iconic runner. Originally teased via sacai’s FW22 collection, the sneaker utilises exposed Zoom Air units, with the label’s signature double Swoosh, tongues and laces again making an appearance.

We now have an in-hand look at the collaboration's first two colourways, the OG-inspired white, red and blue contrasted against a grey, white and black edition. An exact source for these images is not credited, however, they are now circulating online.

While no official release details have surfaced from either party, make sure to keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker for updates.

In the meantime, check out the official release details for the Travis Scott x Nike Air Max 1!
