Rick Owens Has Put His Own Spin on the Converse Chuck 70
Fabled avant-garde fashion designer Rick Owens is known for putting his unique spin on otherwise simple garments and footwear, bringing them into his obscure universe for many to follow like a cult. Within the sneaker world, he’s probably best known for his lengthy collaboration with adidas, appropriating the Nike Dunk High, and Ramones sneakers that have garnered a following of their own.
Speaking of Rick’s Ramones sneakers, there have been memes circulating over the past year of people not in the know looking to fashion-heads wearing the sneakers and saying ‘nice Converse’. Of course, this would have angered many of the IYKYK high-fashion crowd, because although they do look like a pair of Converse Chuck 70s, they cost a whole lot more! Now, it seems like the meme has come full circle, because Owens has linked with Converse to put his own spin on the Chuck 70.
Debuted during his Fall 2021 Menswear show, the Chuck 70 will be in collaboration with his diffusion line DRKSHDW. As expected, Owens has gone for a seriously wayward aesthetic. From what we can tell, he’s used the Chuck 70’s usual mould as the base, before adding thick canvas uppers. Down below, Owens has added a large square-toed chunk to the toe box, and extended the tongue – very reminiscent of his Ramones. Dubbed the ’TURBODRK’, the name can be seen scripted on the co-branded tongue label, completing the look.
The Rick Owens DRKSHDW x Converse TURBODRK Chuck 70 will hit shelves in a range of sizes over the coming few months. Head to their dedicated website to sign up for notifications on the imminent release.
