Prepare for the Return of the Nike Air Total Max Uptempo in 2021
Nike are bringing back another mid-1990s basketball classic: the Air Total Max Uptempo. Highly regarded back in the day for its tank-like durability and full-length Air cushioning, this model is still somewhat of a sleeper hit compared to other offerings in the Nike retro basketball catalogue. The Uptempo line was introduced circa 1995, and its most famous progeny was the Air More Uptempo from 1996, which has been doing the rounds as of late. However, with the return of its Air Total Max Uptempo successor at some point later this year, sneakerheads old and new can reassess whether it is properly revered or still underrated.
The White/Midnight Navy colourway is the most restrained palette in the model’s OG options, but fans of Nike basketball sneakers from that era will recall this simple scheme was rolled out across multiple lines. There is also just something so classic about some nice looking white leather, which really adds a complementary plushness to the aforementioned full-length Air midsole. Meanwhile, the polished metallic Swoosh with thick embroidered edges, tongue top, and mirror-shiny heel clip instantly transports things back to 1997.
Keep an eye out for the Nike Air Total Max Uptempo White/Midnight Navy retro to return in 2021.
