Pour One Out: Chase Shiel’s ‘Glenfiddich Grand Cru XXIII’ Whisky Air Jordan 1 Custom
Melbourne sneaker customiser Chase Shiel has teamed up with whisky distillery Glenfiddich to release 23 pairs of custom style sneakers dubbed the ‘Glenfiddich Grand Cru XXIII’. This partnership celebrates Glenfiddich’s latest drink, the Grand Cru, and it just so happens that it’s been aged for 23 years – a particularly significant number in the sneaker world.
The ‘Glenfiddich Grand Cru XXIII’ is a perfect example of low-key luxury, with an almost all-black colourway hiding the very fine leather used for Shiel’s creation. Thick perforated panels and leather laces are par the course for a high quality custom, and these pairs take it to the next level with appropriately coloured gold thread embroidery behind the Swoosh and on the heel counter. This matches the packaging of Grand Cru.
‘When I designed the custom sneaker, I drew from the grandeur of the Glenfiddich Grand Cru,’ said Shiel. ‘I focused on the senses of touch, sight and smell to reflect its luxurious nature.’
In total, 23 pairs of the ‘Glenfiddich Grand Cru XXIII’ will be crafted by Shiel’s hands, but only 10 will be available to order from Glenfiddich’s website at a yet to be announced date. All proceeds from this drop will go towards Halfcut, an Australian organisation raising funds for the preservation and restoration of wildlife habitats. Stay tuned to Glenfiddich Australia’s Instagram page for the announcement.
