Pokémon and Converse Japan Catch 'Em All With Nostalgic Chuck Taylor All Star Light Collection
Pokémon and Converse Japan are kickin' it old school on their latest colab, offering up a four-pack of takes on the Chuck Taylor All Star Light that boast graphics dating back to the Game Boy days. Pikachu, Eevee, Charizard and Mewtwo are all represented in the collection with each pair providing a lore-filled romp for longtime fans of the series.
All four styles in the collection place a pixelated graphic of their respective character on the tongue, and are stamped with black text that lists that character's name, Pokémon number, height and weight on the lateral heel. Of note is that since this is a Japanese Converse colab, original Japanese character names are used: Eevee is referred to as Eievui, and Charizard is called Lizardon.
For another bit of fan service, each sneaker is accompanied by a special Poké Ball hangtag. Pikachu comes with a standard Poké Ball, Eevee is accompanied by a Great Ball, Charizard is joined by an Ultra Ball, and Mewtwo brings along the legendary Master Ball. Talk about a trip down memory lane for 1990s babies! Finishing touches are served up by co-branded insoles that display Converse and Pocket Monsters –Pokémon's original Japanese name – text hits, white midsoles, white rubber toe caps and modified outsoles.
Expect the Pokémon x Converse Japan Chuck Taylor All Star Light collection to release via the Converse Japan web store sometime this May. Info on an exact date is forthcoming, but each pair will be priced at a tax-included ¥9,900 (roughly $76 in US dollars).
