Official Images of the sacai x Nike VaporWaffle ‘Sail’ Finally Released
Despite leaked samples and on-foot images doing the rounds all year, it’s only just now that have decided to release official product images of the anticipated VaporWaffle ‘Sail’ collaboration. The double-stacked silhouette recently returned to the public consciousness following new colourways releasing in the and , and this is one of the most tonal renditions yet.
As sacai fans will be accustomed to now, Nike’s new-age Vaporfly and old-school Pegasus undergo some mutant gene splicing to create a Siamese sneaker overflowing on both the upper and the sole. Like the ‘Sesame’ and ‘Dark Iris’ releases, the uppers eschew previous technical mesh materials and now instead reintroduce suede and nylon textures in a throwback to 1970s and 1980s runners. The large gum waffle tread outsole (hence the model name), and ubiquitous nylon tongues are other features that fall under this nod to the past. Traditional these decisions may be, but everything else is future forward.
Double-stuffed laces – this time both are white – might be missed the first time round, but closer inspection reveals a woven and a ribbon type. And overlapping screen printed and stitched Swooshes amplify the doubled concept. Of course, the dual Swooshes are part of this too.
