Official images have emerged of a new Nike basketball shoe called the Zoom Court Dragon, which appears to take some key design cues from the early 1990s model known as the Air Raid. Word on the internet is that this creation comes from the mind and hands of Tinker Hatfield who, of course, was also responsible for the OG Raid.

The original was intended for outdoor use, which necessitated thicker outsoles and more durable materials. It’s looking like the Zoom Court Dragon will continue that ethos, as its rubber soles are quite beefy and wrap up the sides of the midsoles. The multiple herringbone pods on the outsole also suggest usage on concrete courts.

Up top, the references to the Air Raid are quite obvious via the crossed instep straps, which are woven in thick black and red fabric to really lock down the foot. There’s also an integrated lace loop system, a much cleaner and likely effective arrangement than regular eyelets. On the material front, there are generous overlays of faux reptile against breathable mesh toe boxes and heel counters. The latter area features a subtle oversized Swoosh that wraps around to the other side.

Stay tuned to see what Nike have to say about this new model when it’s officially announced later this year.
