Nike Sportswear Stickball Tournament
To mark the start of the 2010 MLB baseball season, and the release of the Nike Sportswear x Futura Be True pack, Nike Sportswear’s 21 Mercer St store threw its inaugural NSW Stickball tournament and block party, with tunes by the one and only Q-Tip!
A roster of 30 NY locals including Asher Roth and Jesse Boykins, who also sang the National Anthem were all ready to throw down in this years game. They all received a customized 1 of 30 Futura X Nike Sportswear jersey to play in, as well as a drip-painted stickball bat by Futura. In preparation for the big game, a bus full of the players drove up to Stickball Blvd in the Bronx on Saturday for a Spring Training with The Emperor's Stickball League. The players were given a brief history on the sport and its origins followed by a bat gripping workshop, batting practice and scrimmage.
Sunday's tournament ended with a victory by the "21 Mercer Mercenaries" team, a Q+A with The Emperor's Stickball League and a game viewing of the first true rivalry game of the baseball season, Yankees vs. Red Sox.
