Nike have unveiled the new Serena Williams Building (SW) at their world headquarters in Beaverton and it’s a mighty impressive structure. It’s their largest building yet at 1 million square feet – the equivalent of 140 tennis courts – and represents the brand’s biggest investment in fostering design and creativity.

The floor plan is absolutely massive, so here are some top line stats. 200,000 square feet have been allocated to the Nike Consumer Creation teams as lab space for R&D across footwear and clothing categories. 140k has been devoted to showrooms and office space. Other intriguing areas include a footwear materials library, colour lab, and even the two storey Olympia Theatre (named after Williams’ daughter) that seats 140.

This impressive building is also conscious of the environment, achieving LEED Platinum certification. Over 20 per cent of SW uses recycled materials, and there are 648 solar panels on top of the building to help cut about 41 per cent of energy costs.

‘The whole building takes your breath away. Every element, everywhere you go, is an opportunity to be inspired. I hope this building encourages people to bring out the best of themselves and to dream bigger than they thought possible,’ said Serena Williams.
