are arguably the most playful sub-brand of the Swoosh. This is exhibited often through their releases that draw inspiration from an extremely deep pool of obvious cues and esoteric references. This upcoming edition is an example of the former, as it’s expected to arrive ahead of Halloween 2023, but it still has plenty to offer.
The prevailing theme of this colourway is candy corn, a popular confectionary consumed during the commercial period that is Halloween. Its mix of orange, white and black has already drawn comparisons to the legendary ‘Rayguns’ pairs from the Nike SB archive, but this isn’t just a rerun. The food muse is represented by the graphics beneath the ice sole, plus a humorous embroidered image of a loose tooth dislodged by an errant piece of candy corn – as is the trope of eating the sticky stuff.
As far as actual skate use for this pair, the usual hallmarks of the Nike SB Dunk are present: hard-wearing leather uppers, Zoom Air cushioning and extra padding all around. The ice sole is also believed by some to offer better grip over opaque rubber varieties.
Expect this pair to arrive at Nike SB retailers later this year, probably around October.
