For the first time, Nike have announced that they will tie executive compensation to progress in diversity and  sustainability targets. The news came as part of the brand’s recently unveiled 2020 impact report, which provides updates on company targets, as well as strategy plans moving forward.

Nike have ambitions that 45 per cent of their leadership roles will be filled by women by 2025, with racial and ethnic minorities making up 35 per cent. Other goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70 per cent in Nike-owned facilities, and multiplying the amount of product waste recycled or donated.

Nike also provided several updates on their sustainability and diversity targets, including the use of 100 per cent renewable energy in facilities in the US and Canada, as well as nearly 50 per cent representation of women across the country globally. The company’s CEO and president John Donahoe stated, ‘We’re proud of the successes we’ve seen, but we know the work is still just beginning.’

According to the impact report, progress has been made throughout the supply chain through enhancing renewable energy and diverting manufacturing waste from landfill.
