Many Nike athletes get their own statue, but some have won too many golds and Grand Slams to be cast in bronze. Athletes like Sebastian Coe (certified lord and arguably the greatest middle-distance runner ever) and Serena Williams (arguably the greatest female athlete of all time) fit that bill. To honour their epic achievements, Nike have named new World Headquarters buildings after them.
The Swoosh's swish new digs have made headlines intermittently since 2016; most recently for the project's estimated build cost of one billion USD. The building often pictured to illustrate the development's lavishness is its largest structure at 1 million square feet - this one will wear Serena Williams' name. A six-storey monolith is named for Sebastian Coe, and the fitness centre honours Michael Kryzyzewski, aka Coach K. A building dedicated to on-campus sports activities will be known as the NYC Garage and celebrate the Big Apple's sporting heritage.
