Sneakerheads who have been in the game for a while will recognise this upcoming Nike LeBron 9 Low ‘LeBronold Palmer’ as originally having been an ultra-rare sample from the early 2010s that still fetches big bucks on the secondary market. What was once a unicorn will now be considerably more accessible for mere mortal collectors, as the famed colourway is seeing a retail release this month.

The curious nickname is a portmanteau of LeBron and Arnold Palmer – specifically the sweet drink named after the golfer. Of course, LBJ has been known to hit the green every now and again, so the golf connection is genuine too.

On the colourway front, this GR doesn’t deviate too far from the original, retaining the green-yellow hue on the upper that’s complete with palm trees – an on-the-nose reference to Palmer’s name. Some of that old-world (10 years is a long time in sneakers) tech like the Hyperfuse mesh and full-length Air Max soles makes a return, along with the bright orange accent running throughout.

It’s unlikely anyone will actually shoot hoops in these, but a couple of Arnold Palmers will definitely be poured in the vicinity of the ‘LeBronold Palmer’, which releases on Nike on May 19.
