Over the years, Nike have used the Air Max 90 as an experimental conduit for new production techniques of both a functional and cosmetic nature. The AM90 became a particular guinea pig last year in light of its 30th anniversary, yet Nike have kept trying out new things this year. After the nude-coloured laser-etched woodgrain edition released a couple of months back, the Swoosh are revisiting the concept with a darker colour scheme.

This rendition of the AM90 is unique for a number of reasons beyond its complex laser treatment. For one, the upper is essentially a single seamless piece of leather, whereby only the tongue and heel tab are stitched on. This means the colourway designer would have had to painstakingly draw out the laser graphics on a flat pattern, while ensuring everything lines up to represent the usual panels. Staying at a material level, premium leather distinguishes this AM90 from other releases, as it is has been used inside and out, down to the lining and insole. The waxed cotton laces are also a feature not often used. This is all befitting of a tonal redwood colourway that adds a stately finish.

The Nike Air Max 90 'Laser' will release in Korea on August 1 via Nike, so expect global availability around the same time too.
