The cork tree keeps sprouting more Nike Air Max styles for eco-conscious sneakerheads to enjoy. Another Air Max 97 is coming, imbued with the natural material throughout its upper and outsole, paired to recycled materials.

At first glance, these AM97s look deceptively similar to another colourway in the pack. However, closer inspection reveals there are some subtle differences that set it apart.

Like all of the styles featured in this cork-infused pack, this AM97 colourway approaches a more agricultural take on the futuristic design. Recycled polyester canvas uppers replace synthetic leather, and are rendered in delectable ‘Coconut Milk’ tones, implying an absence of potentially harmful dyes. The namesake cork piping lining the top of the mudguard features some multicoloured flecking throughout its grain for a bit of colour pop to an otherwise straightforward sneaker.

And in maintaining consistency with its plant-themed brethren, there is an embroidered botanical diagram of a cork plant on the tongue of these AM97s. To exalt the material in a practical manner, recycled cork is ground into the rubber outsole, its speckled appearance making itself known throughout the natural brown colour.

Keep an eye out for the Nike Air Max 97 ‘Cork’ to sprout up at select retailers later this year.
