GFC gloom has handed the global retail sector an almighty hiding over the past twelve months. Unfazed it seems is Nike who are set to unwrap their brand new Tokyo flagship store this coming Saturday, November 14th. Immaculately appointed by interior design guru Katayama Masamichi and his Wonderwall wizards, the 10,265 square feet store sits smack-bang on Omotesando Dori, Harajuku’s prestigious main shopping drag. The layout is split into three eye-popping levels, with some of the inner walls said to be made from sneaker soles! Level 1 will focus on running gear with level 2 housing Nike Sportswear and a Nike id studio. With next year’s World Cup looming the third floor will contain Nike’s second ever ‘Bootroom’ (the first is in Nike London), a level showcasing everything soccer. There's a number of store exclusive colabs planned involving Japanese athletes Darvish Yu (pitcher with the Nippon Ham Fighters), Tamesue Dai (track and field and celebrity marathon runner Yasuda Misako. Log on to the official Nike Flagship Harajuku website for more official teasers. Thanks to Tokyo Fashion for extra info.
