Update February 14, 2024: Nike's sweet new iteration of the Dunk Low is finally dropping. You can expect to cop these via Nike, Sneaker Politics (raffle), or the Foot Locker app for $125 on February 17.

Swoosh fans will know the significance of the term ‘Waffle’ in Nike’s history, as it was a kitchen waffle iron that actually helped to spur on a lot of the brand’s success. Back in the Beaverton brand’s early days, the brand’s co-founder, Bill Bowerman, helped to reinvent the running shoe by creating a sole that was suitable for all surfaces. This sole was inspired by the kitchen utensil and laid the groundwork for many of the brand’s traction patterns to come.

Though the Dunk isn’t exactly a running silhouette, it does happen to be one of Nike’s most popular styles, and what better way to pay tribute to the brand’s history than through one of its bestsellers? The Swoosh already gave the SB Dunk High the ‘Waffle’ treatment in 2016, so now it’s the low-top Dunk’s time to shine. Here, the ‘Waffle’ Dunk Low retains its classic court sole, but its uppers come crafted from a mix of brown suede and leather. Its side panels hold the feature piece, arriving with an unmistakable ‘Waffle’ texture. This all comes finished with creamy-coloured Swooshes and laces, as well as a coordinating gum sole unit underfoot. All in all, the pair pays homage to Nike's history in one of the most creative ways we’ve seen in a while.

As it stands, there’s no word on a release date for the Nike Dunk Low ‘Waffle’ just yet, but stay locked to Sneaker Freaker for more news as it comes in.

In other news, Crocs continue the foodie theme with a new Coca-Cola colab.
