Out in the depths of the Internet exists a certain breed of sneaker collector, clustered mostly around Australia and France, who engage in the maddening pursuit of vintage models of the Nike Air Max Plus. Obscure pairs from the turn of the millennium are fished out from local listings and private collections for the quiet satisfaction of owning something that’ll only hang out on display. Now, one of these forgotten gems is returning from its nascent beginnings: an ‘Olympic’ edition that dropped all the way back in the year 2000.

Long-time sneakerheads who were regular posters on online forums will remember the heady days of this particular Air Max Plus colourway posted on WDYWT and pickup threads in all of its clear-bubbled glory. As the years went on, sightings dwindled, and other TNs took over the conversation. But, two decades on, someone at Nike has clearly studied the literature, and ventured into the archive to restore this glorious navy, red and gold palette to its OG status. Well, there have been some changes in the years since. The previously translucent toe bumpers are now suitably gaudy in gold, and the particular shade of red doesn’t seem as saturated as 20-plus years ago. Those changes aside, the prospect of a wearable pair will likely be too irresistible to pass up, warts and all.

Keep an eye out for the Nike Air Max Plus ‘Olympic’ to hit retailers some time this year.
