This is one of those ‘if you know, you know’ kind of sneakers. If you don’t, here’s the lowdown. The Nike Air Raid was a legendary basketball shoe designed by Tinker Hatfield and intended for outdoor courts and streetball games. It has been brought back rather infrequently, with the last retros occurring in 2003, 2008 and 2014.

But these new ecomm pictures mean they’re coming back later this year, or in early 2021! The Air Raid’s rugged design is evident in its beefy rubber tread pattern and the playful ‘FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY’ warning on the midfoot. The uppers are equally reinforced, with sturdy leather construction locked down by the Raid’s distinct crossed straps. It’s understood this design went on to inspire the similar strapping used on the Air Jordan 8 – another Hatfield creation. More recently, the Air Raid gave Fear of God's Jerry Lorenzo some ideas...

Anyway, it looks like the OG black and grey colourway is set for a return, and it should have any 90s sneakerhead very excited. Stay tuned for release details.
