The onset of the 2020s will result in sneaker brands dredging up their finest archival designs from decades past. As such, classics from the 1990s and 2000s will strike a chord with young sneakerheads and their parents alike, so it only makes sense for to bring back something with crossover appeal. Exhibit A: the in ‘Auburn’ colours, returning for the fourth time since 2009.
It appears Nike are tapping back into the cross-training archives for their latest retro push, as the is scheduled for another run in 2022. The Air Trainer SC High is best associated with jack-of-all-trades athlete Bo Jackson, whose legendary ‘Bo Knows’ commercial series propelled the model (and some of its siblings) into the public consciousness.
This OG colourway, commonly referred to as the ‘Auburn’ because of Jackson’s college football alma mater, is an instantly recognisable combination of white, orange and blue. The high-top design displays this all in what can only be described as a 90s arrangement, with webbed overlays, perforated leather panels and imprinted nylon tongues all representative of the era.
