Update January 13, 2023: It’s been a little while since any news regarding the Nike Air Ship ‘University Gold’ surfaced, but @gc911 has shared some early shots of the upcoming pair. Word on the street is they’re releasing in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more.

After a number of limited edition reissues and an OG pair selling at auction for over $1.4 million, the Nike Air Ship is docking back in sneakerhead consciousness with the arrival of more colourways. Previewed above is an upcoming ‘University Gold’ offering that borrows some heritage conventions while simultaneously creating new combinations.

As shared by @shane_redman, these Air Ships are simply a yellow flip of the original white and red edition from circa 1984. The leather upper remains the same, as does the nylon tongue. Included with the shoes is a secondary part of matching yellow laces.

Beyond the obvious observations, there are some more discreet details that are worth mentioning. The midsole unit has been clearly lifted from the Air Jordan 1, which makes sense given the historical connection between that and the Air Ship. This is in line with the ultra-limited ‘New Beginnings’ pair that released in 2019 and more or less kickstarted the model’s revival.

There’s another interesting tidbit in the pamphlet that can be seen in the background of the above photos. It tells the supposed story of the Air Ship and its connection to its most famous player – but until this pair hits stores, here’s the essential history of the model.

Expect the Air Ship to arrive at select Nike retailers in coming months. It’s also likely there will be more colourways in the future.
