It appears Nike are going all-in with their new Air Max Flyknit Racer hybrid lifestyle sneaker. The eponymous model name gives away its main USPs of Air Max tech and Flyknit weaves, but the result is more interesting than it sounds on paper. There’s a lot of Flyknit Racer flavour – something that will appeal to sneakerheads who were into it back in the 2010s – combined with the soles of the Air Max Pre-Day, a more recent addition to the sportswear selection.

While customisers have made their own Air Max Flyknit Racers for years, this is the first official offering from the Swoosh. It’s not just a sneaker sandwich made from leftover ingredients in the lab; Nike have reworked the FK Racer upper to be a little more premium with leather overlays on the eye stays and heel counter. And it’s likely the last has been modified to mesh up nicely with the new Air Max Pre-Day midsole.

With classic Racer colourways like the ‘Oreo’ and ‘ Multicolour’ already on the way, this white and black pair does evoke memories of the ‘Orca’, albeit without the distinct asymmetrical finish. Maybe Nike will do more with the weave in future releases – as for this one, it should be coming some time this year.
