Nike Dress Up Dapper Corduroy Air Max 97s
Since the is now over 25 years old, it’s about time it considered acting its age. This means ditching its usual metallic synthetic materials for grown-up corduroy, which adorns the entire upper of these bubble-soled retro runners.
Upon closer inspection, there’s a lot going on this latest edition of the AM97. The multi-layered upper lends itself well to having multiple colours and textures clash together, which this pair leans into wholeheartedly. There’s a gentle gradient of berry purple and fairy-floss pink leading to mustard yellow shades, joining up to an inky petrol-blue mudguard. Of course, more pink appears by way of the double-row stitching holding down this integral panel. Threads continue to be a key part of this colourway on the lateral midfoot ‘window’ that substitutes out the usual Swoosh branding for a cursive ‘Air’ wordmark. Beneath this, of course, is the full-length Air Max unit that is the defining feature of the eponymous Air Max 97. This section is surprisingly the most subdued of the entire execution, simply presented in off-white foam midsoles and black rubber outsoles sandwiching the colourless cushioning technology.
Expect to find this corduroy Air Max 97 at Nike retailers in coming months.
