Colourway cross-pollination is nothing new at Nike, and the latest example involves the OG red Air Max 1 and Air Max 97. Both models celebrate major milestones this year, so perhaps it isn’t a surprise that respect is being paid to the architect.

Unlike the fictional renderings of Air Max sneakers with classic F1 liveries, these are the real deal. The AM97 has always been a versatile canvas, and the red, white and silver mix works well here. There is still a healthy dose of reflective material across the upper strips, which sit above a mesh base per OG conventions. The mudguard is stark red like the AM1, and this accent flows into the innards of the full-length Air units in the midsole. Additional silver and grey on the outsole, tongue and pull tabs sandwich the balanced arrangement together.

Find these Nike Air Max 97s in coming months from all good Nike retailers. With the anniversary dates drawing closer, perhaps we'll see some other borrowed colourways pop up. Or maybe a return of the ‘Silver Bullet’ edition is on the cards... stay tuned people!
