Nike consider it socially acceptable to wear velvet out in public, so they’ve covered the Air Max 95 in the fuzzy stuff. It’s in a very lush shade of green too, which should be a perfect match for all of the Juicy Couture tracksuits stashed in the back of wardrobes or hanging on racks in the forgotten corner of thrift stores worldwide.
Let’s be real: nobody is running in the AM95 these days, so it’s perfectly appropriate to put a lifestyle leaning fabric like velvet on its upper. Nike have selected various grains of satin, synthetic and velvet across its upper for a wholly tactile experience that invites consensual stroking from the wearer and members of the public. The lining is also particularly plush, exhibiting what appears to be more than the usual amount of padding. This overall depth of detail is obscured by the tonal green finish, which, depending on the angle it’s viewed at, ranges from vivid teal to rich green. Breaking up the package is white laces and a matching thick midsole housing multiple Air units in the heel and forefoot, before meeting a tonal green outsole.
