This Nike Air Max 95 ‘Anatomy of Air’ is Spine-Tingling
Nike are continuing their ‘Anatomy of Air’ collection on the Air Max 95 by exploring the bodily inspiration behind the iconic design. The next part is the spine, which is yanked out from beneath the shoe and displayed in grisly detail with heavily tactile uppers.
Instead of the sleek microfibre in varying shades of grey, this AM95 takes a darker turn and opts for tones of olive, maroon and dark brown. Upping the texture is heavy gauge canvas, large mesh and hairy suede, which meets dense laces. A strip of black running down the ankle counter reveals the main theme of this colourway, the aforementioned spine, which is represented by a fairly accurate diagram of the literal backbone.
Don’t think for a second that this inspiration – and the entire ‘Anatomy of Air’ collection so far – is arbitrary. Nike’s revised history of the AM95 directly credits the human body as inspiring the model, and the spine specifically referenced in the midsole. Its outsole shank is also a literal representation of the design’s stability, which is again homaged here with the same spine print used on the ankle.
Expect to see this Air Max 95 arrive at Nike retailers in coming weeks.
